Ramblings #3
Happy New Year, y’all! I was looking back on 2018 the other day and I realized that I had done a lot of firsts. Went to the movie theater by myself. Attended a concert on my own, and on a whim I upgraded my seats from the lawn to the pavilion (a friend who works at the venue recommended that I do that). I also attend a NYE party on my own, and ended up having a blast.
Besides learning how to do things on my own without my sisters, I accepted a management job at work this past Spring. That was definitely a huge learning curve for me. It took me months to realize that I was actually good at the job, especially after facing some opposition.
When ever I did accomplish something in either my personal or professional life in 2018, I did something special for myself — purchase a luxury lipstick at Sephora. I had wanted to own a YSL lipstick for years, but every time I would go to the store to purchase one, I would back out at the last moment. So it was nice to finally take that plunge, and treat-myself to a fancy lipstick, or five over the course of the past year.
Also within this past year, I have created some tasty drinks at work. I have taken my creativity and created drinks that both my co-workers, and I love. Like there is the Ashley Chai — which recipe changes slightly depending on the time of year. A Pineapple Spiced Latte (inspiration taken from the promo’s for the Psych movie). Blended Coffee (which is different from a coffee frappuccino). Strawberry Passionfruit Lemonade. I feel like there are more drinks that I created, but I can’t remember them at the moment.
This past year, I also did more things with friends like: go thrifting, grab coffee, go to the movies, go eat out, etc… This is something that I always wanted to do, but wouldn’t have the nerve to ask people to hangout with me.
I also went on my first vacation without anyone in my family. I went to Walt Disney World with my “sister” Christina for a long weekend, back in October. I originally thought that I wouldn’t take a vacation somewhere last year, so it was exciting when WDW become an option for me.
The last time I had gone was in either 2009/2010, so things had definitely changed since I was last there. We stayed on-site at the All-Star Music Resort, which was amazing. Besides staying on-site, we also flew down and took only Disney transportation once we were down in Orlando — which made the trip truly magical.
To say the least, my inner Disney princess loved this trip. I purchased my first ever pair of Mickey Ears, and of course they were the rose gold ones (something I had been eyeing all summer). I had my first ever Dole Whip (which is delicious, and so tasty on a hot day). Finally made it to Animal Kingdom, I had only wanted to visit this park since it opened in either 1997/98. So it was a dream come true, when I walked into the park and then saw the Tree of Life. Also, I really loved the old Hollywood charm of Hollywood Studios — which was something I didn’t really know about the park. I think it would be fun to visit the park again, but wearing either 1940s or 50s garb.
