Monthly Favorites | July, 2020

I have been thinking over what my favorites are for the month of July, and for this month I have picks that range from a new Kristin Ess shampoo, Young Living essential oils, to a bunch of recent favorites on Netflix. I had a lot of free time this month thanks to having to self quarantining for work, so to say the least I binged a lot of Netflix.

Beauty

  • Kristin Ess Scalp Purifying Micellar Shampoo // TARGET // I discovered after a few weeks of moving to Indianapolis, that the water here has really been effecting my hair. So I did a quick trip to Target and picked up one of Kristin Ess’s purifying shampoos. Let me just say, this has been a game changer for me! It is gentle enough to use up to twice a week, makes my hair feel super soft, and enhances my natural curls. I’m definitely a huge fan of this shampoo now — as it is perfect for removing build-up.

  • Revlon PhotoReady Candid Natural Finish Foundation // TARGET // This is such a gorgeous foundation. I find myself reaching it more often than not. The only downside for this foundation is that it doesn’t have any SPF in it, so just make sure you apply some before your primer. It looks very natural, feels lightweight on the skin, and does an amazing job at not looking too heavy on the skin. I have found myself loving a more natural makeup look, as the years have gone by.

Lifestyle

  • Stress Away Essential Oil // Young Living // This has become my number one favorite oil to diffuse this month. The scent just instantly calms me down when ever I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed. I love it paired with lavender & orange essential oils.

  • Lemon Essential Oil // Young Living // This is such a well rounded oil. You can use it to remove stubborn price tags, make lemonade, or add a few drops to a white cake mix to make a fun summer cake. This is just a few uses I have learned about this oil. This also does well being diffused, especially when paired with peppermint and lavender.

  • Thieves Essential Oil // Young Living // I have come to love using the roller blend in the AM/PM to help build my immune system. The smell took some getting used to, but now I love the scent! I also enjoy diffusing this at night, especially when paired with Stress Away and lemon — I enjoy the pairing of slightly warm and spicy with the fresh citrus blend.

  • Home Chef // At this time, I feel like the Home Chef meals might be a little too pricey for me to use all the time. But, I can say, they sure do know how to spice their food correctly. Their food kits are helpful for the weeks when I don’t want to think about dinner, and I like having all of the ingredients in one handy spot in the fridge. If you have a lot of food allergies, this won't be the most helpful food service as you can't view the menus until you have committed to a meal plan.

  • AirPods Pro // AMAZON // After saving my tip money for a few months, I finally purchased the Apple AirPods Pro. Uh, they are totally worth the money. They easily connect to all of my Apple products, they make it easy to talk on the phone hands free, and they are a dream on flights while traveling. I also appreciate that I can charge my phone, and listen to stuff at the same time. #itsthelittlethings

Entertainment

  • Outer Banks // NETFLIX // “A teenager enlists his three best friends to hunt for a legendary treasure linked to his father's disappearance.” For the longest time, I resisted the urge to jump on the bandwagon to watch this show, as it seemed like everyone on Instagram was watching this show back in April. Well, some friends recommend the show to me, so when I had a bunch of extra time this month I decided to take the plunge. I was hooked right away, and I loved how it was a lighter Teen drama/mystery. I do love a good mystery and thriller, but sometimes they can be too dark for me — this one was perfect for me.

  • SuperMarket Sweep // NETFLIX // I grew up watching this 90s gameshow, so to say the least I was excited to see a series of episodes land on Netflix this month. I have been trying to pace myself from watching all of the episodes at once, but it is hard as I have always loved this show! Growing up it was my dream to go on the show, and to win the $5,000.

  • Sweet Magnolias // NETFLIX // “Lifelong friends lift each other up as they juggle relationships, family and careers in the small Southern town of Serenity.” This ended up being a few sweet, and relatively clean Netflix original TV show that was just recently released. I really love the characters on this show, and I have a weakness for small town type shows [Gilmore Girls and Hart of Dixie to name a few]. I also appreciate how lighthearted the show is, makes it perfect for those days when you don’t want anything heavy or dark.

  • The Help [2011] // NETFLIX | AMAZON PRIME // I have been a longtime fan of this film, the soundtrack, and book for a number of years now. When I saw it drop on Netflix this month, I knew I had to rewatch it as it has been a few years since I’ve seen it. You know what, so far I have watched it three times this time. Since I know the film so well, it makes great background noise for when I’m cleaning house, making dinner, doing my makeup in the morning, or working on my blog. “In 1960s Mississippi, Southern society girl Skeeter (Emma Stone) returns from college with dreams of being a writer. She turns her small town on its ear by choosing to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent white families. Only Aibileen (Viola Davis), the housekeeper of Skeeter's best friend, will talk at first. But as the pair continue the collaboration, more women decide to come forward, and as it turns out, they have quite a lot to say.”

  • The Astronaut Wives Club // AMAZON PRIME // I watched this TV show when it first came out, five years ago when it was on ABC, but I got the hankering to watch it again this month. You know what? It is just as good as I remembered, definitely worth a rewatch. Also, if you love vintage clothing this show is filled with eye candy. “Based on Lily Koppel's book "The Astronaut Wives Club: A True Story," this limited series tells the story of the women who were essential players behind big events in American history. As astronauts embark on death-defying missions, Life magazine documents behind-the-scenes moments from the lives of their young wives and families. The attention transforms these military spouses into American royalty. While their celebrity status rises, tragedy also starts to touch their lives, bringing the women together to support one another.”
